$40M Boost for Nurses, Midwives to Advance Care Research

Department of Health

Many health care professionals have had to choose between working as a researcher or a clinician. This can mean that research does not always address problems seen in clinical practice.

The MRFF's Clinician Researchers initiative supports clinicians to conduct research that will improve clinical care and practice, while refining their research skills.

The 2026 Clinician Researchers: Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health grant opportunity will provide up to $40 million for clinician researcher-led research:

  • within health services that accelerates the translation of evidence into practice
  • that strengthens the performance of the health system, builds the nursing, midwifery and allied health workforce, or improves services.
