Clarence Valley Council held its monthly Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday, 27 September at Grafton Council Chambers. A total of 20 items were debated and 12 adopted by consent in a meeting which lasted about three hours.

Emergency Services Precinct to be based at Grafton Regional Airport

Council resolved to advise the NSW Rural Fire Service Deputy Commissioner that Grafton Regional Airport is the preferred site for the new Emergency Services Precinct.

The NSW Government has invested $8.5 million toward the construction of a co-located Emergency Operations Centre and Fire Control Centre to be built in Grafton as part of a $71.5 million investment across the state.

Modifications to subdivision layouts approved

Councillors approved two modification applications that varied the proposed number of dwellings in subdivisions at Yamba and Tucabia.

The number of dwellings in the manufactured homes estate located on Carrs Drive, Yamba was increased from 193 to 197. The new design includes increased visitor parking from 29 to 43 spaces, the addition of a new footpath, car wash bay and the inclusion of additional traffic calming devices to assist with pedestrian safety.

Meanwhile the layout of the approved subdivision at 25 Mookin Street, Tucabia will be reduced from 15 to 12 lots.

Hawthorne Rodeo Park Masterplan

Councillors will attend an onsite inspection and further discuss user group concerns at a workshop prior to considering the Hawthorne Rodeo Park Masterplan at the next Council meeting on 25 October.

The masterplan includes upgraded facilities, additional stables, camping areas, spectator seating and lighting at the South Grafton venue. It was presented for adoption at this month's meeting, but was deferred in a unanimous decision following a motion from Cr Debrah Novak.

User groups will be invited to attend the onsite inspection with the councillors.

Ulmarra sewer options to be investigated

Cr Steve Pickering's motion to investigate options for sewering Ulmarra received unanimous support.

The decision comes after a survey was sent to 209 to determine if they would like Council to examine options to sewer the Ulmarra village.

Up to $100,000 from the Sewer Fund Reserve will be allocated to undertake the study. It will involve engaging a suitable qualified independent contractor to carry out investigation of all options for sewering Ulmarra, including existing sites, potential new sites and possible site specific units to facilitate water reuse options and any other innovative options not already considered .
