$500,000 worth of cannabis seized after search warrant at Mittagong

Officers attached to The Hume Police District have seized cannabis with a potential street value of over $500,000 after executing a search warrant at Mittagong this morning.

In October 2021, officers attached to the Southern Highland Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into hydroponic cultivation of cannabis in the Southern Highlands region.

About 8am today (Wednesday 11 November 2021), officers from the Southern Highland Proactive Crime Team, The Hume Detectives, The Hume Drug Unit, the Dog Unit and Public Order and Riot Squad, attended a house on the Old Hume Highway, Mittagong and executed a search warrant.

The unoccupied building was significantly modified and constructed as a sophisticated hydroponic setup.

Multiple electrical transformers were located in the ceiling cavity and all the windows had been sealed.

Police located 156 plants in various stages of growth and over 5kg of cannabis leaf.

A crime scene was established and was forensically examined by specialist police.
