Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth The Honourable Sam O'Connor
  • Crisafulli Government delivers record $5.6 billion investment in social and community homes across Queensland.
  • 595 social and affordable homes in the Gold Coast housing pipeline.
  • 36 new community homes fast-tracked in Southport for most vulnerable.
  • After 10 years of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders in need on the Gold Coast.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Gold Coasters, with 595 social and affordable homes in construction or under contract across the region.

It's one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy with building industry red tape reform and a record $5.6 billion investment over four years, which is laying the foundations to deliver 53,500 social and community homes by 2044.

This includes 36 new community homes for Southport fast-tracked through the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation pathway and being built in partnership with Community Housing Queensland Limited.

The Crisafulli Government's crucial housing help follows a decade of decline and underinvestment where Labor failed to plan for Queensland's growing population and added just 509 social homes on average per year.

Under the Crisafulli Government, Queensland's housing pipeline is ramping up to deliver 2,000 social and community homes each year by the end of this term.

There are now almost 6,000 social and affordable homes in construction or under contract to be delivered, more than twice the number Labor had locked in at the time of their last Budget.

This includes 158 social and affordable homes in Southport, 12 social homes in Coomera, 29 social homes in Helensvale and 53 social homes in Nerang.

Minister Sam O'Connor said the Crisafulli Government was delivering the fresh start Queenslanders voted for, exactly as promised.

"We are delivering more social and community homes in every corner of Queensland," Minister O'Connor said.

"Under Labor, an average of just 509 social homes were delivered per year - barely a third of the rate Queensland's population grew over the same period.

"We're ramping up construction to deliver 2,000 social and community homes each year by the end of this term.

"Fast-tracked projects like these 36 new homes in Southport are vital to meeting the need for social and community housing for Gold Coasters waiting for a place to call home," Mr O'Connor said.

"While we have locked-in a record pipeline for social and community housing and are delivering more homes sooner with the Residential Activation Fund, there is much more to be done to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders, and we remain committed to delivering the fresh start we promised."

Community Housing (QLD) Limited State Manager Carly Bairstow said the Southport social housing project was developed for Queenslanders aged 55 and over.

"The Southport project will give older Queenslanders the chance to live in a right-sized home, that is modern and accessible and enables independence and connection to their community," Ms Bairstow said.

"The need for social and affordable homes on the Gold Coast has never been greater.

"CHL is proud to partner with Queensland Government on projects like this one, where our provision of safe, secure homes to seniors will help free-up other larger properties for families who need them most."
