$600K upgrade of South Street and Burton Street now complete

A $600,000 safety upgrade of the intersection of South Street and Burton Street in Harristown is now complete.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Infrastructure Committee Portfolio Leader Cr Carol Taylor said the upgrade will improve the intersection's overall safety and operation as well as cater for future traffic demands.

"The intersection will be safer for all users including motorists, pedestrians, students, parents and staff from Harristown State Primary School, Harristown State High School and Concordia Lutheran College," Cr Taylor said.

"The project included installing new traffic signals, removing the existing pedestrian crossing, upgrading street lighting, resurfacing and line marking. Motorists can now make a safe right-hand turn from Burton Street into South Street."

The project was delivered as part of Council's Pandemic Response Investment Program and substantially funded through the Queensland Government's School Transport Infrastructure Program.

"Council is very appreciative of the Queensland Government's $415,000 contribution to this project which is one of 64 projects being accelerated to stimulate economic activity across the Toowoomba Region," Cr Taylor said.
