Western Australia continues to shine as a premier screen production hub, with the highly anticipated second season of Mystery Road: Origin set to premiere on the ABC on 21 September.
Filmed among the towering forests of Pemberton, the production injected an estimated $7.3 million into the Western Australian economy, including $5 million directly into the South West region during the low season for tourism.
Backed by the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund in association with Screenwest, Lotterywest, and Screen Australia, the filming created more than 40 employment opportunities and supported local accommodation, transport, catering and hospitality businesses.
Season two continues the legacy of WA's Mystery Road, which across its four seasons has generated more than $25 million for the State, with an estimated $18.5 million flowing into regional communities.
The Western Australian Regional Screen Fund supports regional capacity-building and helps attract high-profile productions like Mystery Road: Origin, delivering significant economic, cultural and community benefits to WA.
As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
"Mystery Road has become one of the ABC's most successful franchises, and it has placed Western Australia's regions firmly in the national spotlight.
"With the Cook Government's support, the series has delivered more than $25 million into the economy, including $18.5 million for regional towns.
"That is money flowing into local businesses, jobs for local crews, and a major boost to communities that warmly welcome productions."
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
"The Cook Government is committed to delivering more economic opportunities for regional WA.
"From the Kimberley to the Goldfields and now Pemberton, these productions showcase the extraordinary diversity of our landscapes, while demonstrating the vital role Western Australia plays in Australia's screen sector - generating jobs, supporting local businesses and strengthening communities across the region.
"This season showcases our beautiful South West region and brings valuable employment and economic development opportunities to the region."
