70kg cannabis seized from sedan stopped for erratic driving near Tweed Heads, NSW

A man who was stopped after being seen driving erratically along the M1 Motorway near Tweed Heads, has been charged after police found 70kg of cannabis in the boot of his sedan, NSW Police say.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Target Action Group (TAG) stopped the Holden Commodore at Sleepy Hollow, about 35km south of Tweed Heads, about 3.15pm yesterday (Friday 30 November 2018).

Police will allege the driver, a 27-year-old man from Mount Tamborine in Queensland, had been seen driving erratically – speeding up then slowing down – in northbound traffic.

When the vehicle was searched, 70kg of cannabis was found packed in four sports bags in the boot.

The drugs have an estimated potential street value of $600,000.

The man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with supply a prohibited drug (commercial quantity), and deal with proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail before his appearance in Tweed Heads Local Court today (Saturday 1 December 2018), where he was once again refused bail to re-appear in the same court on Monday (3 December 2018).
