$83M Boost for Family Violence Prevention, Women's Aid

The 2026-27 Tasmanian Budget delivers $83 million to strengthen the prevention of family violence and expand support for women across the state.

The investment builds on Tasmania's whole of government approach, strengthening prevention, early intervention and recovery services that are already making a difference in communities.

Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Jane Howlett, said the Tasmanian Government is delivering a strong economy and caring community.

"This investment is about prevention, protection and long term change," Minister Howlett said.

"We're backing programs that stop violence before it starts, supporting women early, and building safer futures for families and communities across Tasmania."

Tasmania's coordinated approach is showing encouraging results.

Progress reporting under Tasmania's Third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan (Survivors at the Centre) shows that more than three quarters of actions have already been completed or embedded into everyday operations, strengthening prevention and service coordination statewide.

Specialist services supported thousands of Tasmanians each year, with integrated programs such as Family Violence Counselling and Support Services and community based prevention initiatives helping women access support earlier and closer to home.

"We know that prevention and early support work," Minister Howlett said.

"By investing in skilled frontline workers, strong community organisations and coordinated services, we're creating safer homes and reducing the long term impacts of family violence.

"This Budget recognises our nation and the world are facing turbulent times, with our investment firmly focussed on frontline services."

This year's Gender Budget Statement will deliver important analysis.

"The Statement provides an evidence based view of the experiences of women and girls and helps guide consideration of Budget initiatives across economic security, leadership and participation, safety, and health and wellbeing," Minister Howlett said.

The Budget supports the Government's commitment to delivering services that are practical, evidence based and focussed on outcomes - strengthening communities, supporting women and delivering for Tasmanians.
