We were asked recently about what the Victorian Government's prioritising of 84Y Agreements means for Councils and vet clinics across the State.
All Victorian Councils are required to have a Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) under Section 68A(1) of the Domestic Animals Act 1994. Recently, the Victorian Government has asked Councils to prioritise 84Y Agreements within their DAMPs, and Council has been meeting with veterinary clinics to discuss these.
Vet clinics have been requested to enter into an 84Y Agreement with Council, as it enables them to take custody of a lost animal and attempt to reunite it with their rightful owner in line with Victorian Government legislation (the Domestic Animals Act 1994).
Vet clinics who have entered into 84Y Agreements are only required to provide Council with information to clarify who has found and who has collected a lost animal. This is to ensure that the Victorian Government's requirements are being upheld.
