An Australian author who has just celebrated her 98th birthday is proving that stories have no age limit with the release of her latest novel, The Rim of the Sky, a sweeping work of historical fiction set against the turbulence of nineteenth-century Russia.

Natalie Scott's The Rim of the Sky follows young noblewoman Elizaveta Georgievna as she is drawn into the revolutionary currents reshaping Tsarist Russia between 1861 and 1881. Love, political awakening, sacrifice, exile and resistance collide in a story that explores the cost of conviction in an era of upheaval.

Subtitled A Novel of Revolution and Rebellion in Tsarist Russia, the novel traverses Russia, France and Switzerland as its heroine confronts questions that remain strikingly contemporary: social justice, women's autonomy, idealism, family, and what individuals are prepared to risk in pursuit of change.

Natalie Scott has written across fiction, non-fiction and children's literature during a long writing life. The Rim of the Sky arrives as she celebrates her 98th birthday and follows her memoir A Secret Grief, released in November last year.

According to the publisher, Bonita Mersiades: "Natalie reminds us that creativity does not come with an expiry date. Her curiosity, imagination and commitment to storytelling remain extraordinary. The Rim of the Sky is ambitious historical fiction written with deep feeling and a fascination for people caught in the sweep of history."

Set against the backdrop of reform, unrest and the growing revolutionary movement that culminated in the assassination of Tsar Alexander II, the novel offers readers a richly imagined portrait of a society on the edge of transformation.

The launch of The Rim of the Sky will take place on Thursday 21st May at Berkelouw Books, Balgowlah.

Readers are invited not only to celebrate the arrival of a new novel, but also an author whose writing life continues into her tenth decade.
