A Bigger, Better Wendouree West Recreation Reserve

Families in Wendouree will be able to rely on great local sporting and community facilities, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver $7 million towards a redeveloped Wendouree West Recreation Reserve.

The project will include a new pavilion and community hub, new soccer pitches and lighting for night games, as well as basketball, skate and BMX facilities for local kids.

Not only will the project deliver great sporting facilities, it will also include great community spaces too.

This investment will also go towards the relocation of the Wendouree West Men’s Shed and a new ReCranked Shed, a service which takes unwanted bikes, fixes them and gives them back to the local community.

The redevelopment will also include new inclusive and accessible play spaces for local kids, new BBQ and shelter spaces for local families, and a brand-new dog park for local pups.

The project will provide a space for families to socialise and connect, as well as ensuring more playing space for the growing number of local soccer players.

Community soccer is growing quickly, with around 1200 participants in the Ballarat area alone. This number is expected to grow even bigger, reaching nearly 2000 players by 2026.

With these upgrades from a re-elected Labor Government, local clubs – and this local community – will have the great sporting facilities they deserve.

This investment from a re-elected Labor Government is in addition to funding from the City of Ballarat and local community organisations.

Today’s announcement builds on the Andrews Labor Government’s existing investments in local sporting facilities, including expanding the Wendouree Sports and Events Centre and the redevelopment of the Eureka precinct, including massive upgrades to MARS Stadium and C.E. Brown Reserve.

The Andrews Labor Government has made the biggest investment in grassroots sporting opportunities in Victoria’s history, with $420 million dedicated to community sports.

As stated by Premier Daniel Andrews

"At its core, community sport is all about community spirit. With this investment, we’ll help make this strong community even stronger."

"From our next great soccer stars to local pups – this will be a space everyone can enjoy."

As stated by Member for Wendouree Sharon Knight

"Not only does it include new sporting facilities, this will provide a space for families to enjoy, connect and relax."

"Whether it’s schools, hospitals, better roads or new sporting facilities, only Labor can be trusted to deliver for local families."
