A Clean, Green Legacy for Future Generations

National Seniors Australia this week launched its 'Healthy Earth, Healthier Future' campaign to leave a greener legacy for future Australians.

The launch coincides with 'World Environment Day' tomorrow Saturday, 5 June 2021.

In the run up to the election, the campaign calls for a government green investment option for older Australians.

Research by National Seniors over two years on thousands of seniors shows the overwhelming majority believe climate change is real and want to do something about it now.

• 85% believe climate change is real

• Around 75% of those who believe it's real want action even if it costs

• More than 60% have already invested in renewable energy products or projects

National Seniors Chief Advocate, Ian Henschke says "The results of our latest surveys, explode the view older Australians don't care about the environment, quite the opposite."

"Older Australians want to do their bit to build a better future. And they want to do more than just put solar panels on the roof.

"So, we're proposing a new way government can help them invest in large-scale renewable energy projects which benefit the environment and future generations," said Mr Henschke.

SENIORS GREEN BONDS

National Seniors is calling for a government scheme to allow older Australians to invest in green infrastructure programs, such as 'Snowy Hydro 2.0'.

'Seniors' Green Bonds' would be open to anyone of pension age and be sold in lots of $5,000. This means those with limited savings could still invest.

Mr Henschke says, "This is a way older Australians can fund a better future and be rewarded for doing so."
