With many people using extended periods of lockdown as an excuse to declutter their homes, Hobsons Bay City Council is offering a sustainable way to pass on unwanted goods and give them a new purpose.
Pass it On - Reusables Drop-off Day invites people to give their unwanted, but good quality items a second lease on life, at a free drop-off event on Saturday 13 March.
Charities and not-for-profits will be on site throughout the day to help ensure goods are effectively redistributed throughout the community to those in need.
Items in good, reusable and working condition are being sought in the categories of:
- dressmaking
- DIY
- electrical (up to 10 years old)
- furniture
- gardening
- kitchen
- leisure and
- whitegoods
Pass it On - Reusables Drop-off Day runs from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 13 March at Gate 4 of the Toyota Car Park, Grieve Parade, Altona North. The event is supported by Toyota Australia.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Jonathon Marsden:
"Reducing our carbon footprint and improving our recycling capacity is a big journey, made up of lots of little steps. This is a fantastic small step we can all make together in reducing our impact on the environment and ensuring good quality items find a second home.
"I think during recent lockdowns we've all felt the walls of our houses close in on us. It's really stressed the value of decluttering our home of all the things we don't use anymore.
"Events like Pass it On are a brilliant way to find a good home for the teens' old bikes, the old computer, vacuum or musical instrument and create a little extra valuable space at home. It's everyone's responsibility to reduce waste and this is an easy, positive step we can all make together."
