ABC Brisbane And Perth Talk Of Town

ABC Radio Brisbane and ABC Radio Perth are the strongest talk stations in their markets according to GfK Survey 5, released today.

612 ABC Radio Brisbane recorded a +1.2% overall share increase this survey for a total share of 7.0% and 720 ABC Radio Perth added +0.6 for an overall share of 6.9%.

In Brisbane, Breakfast with Loretta Ryan and Craig Zonca added +1.6% to an 8.8% share while Mornings with Steve Austin added +1.4% to 6.7% share.

Afternoons with Katherine Feeney and Drive with Ellen Fanning both increased by +1.3% share points this survey.

Queensland Evenings with Kelly Higgins-Devine is up 3.4% to 10.5% share, making it the most popular evenings program in Brisbane.

It's been a big month for teams in Brisbane with Mornings, Afternoons, Drive and Weekends all broadcasting from the busiest Ekka show in 15 years. The team also welcomed more than 1700 people into the Southbank studio as part of the Brisbane Open House program.

In July, the station celebrated 100 years of broadcasting with a special outside broadcast in Queen Street Mall with Loretta and Joel, Steve Austin, Kat Feeney and Ellen Fanning.

At ABC Radio Perth, Breakfast with Mark Gibson added +2.0 share points to an 8.4% share, while at the other end of the day, Drive with Gary Adshead increased by +0.9% for a 6.9% share this survey.

These results see Perth join Brisbane as the number 1 talk station in their markets.

"These strong results for our teams in Brisbane and Perth are a reflection of our teams, who continue to meet our audience in ways that that matter to them." ABC Director Audio, Ben Latimer said.

"This is a fantastic result for Brisbane as they celebrate their 100th anniversary."

Elsewhere across the ABC, 702 ABC Radio Sydney Mornings with Hamish Macdonald recorded a full +1.0% share increase to 5.6% share and Chris Bath in Drive continues to grow her audience in S5 recording a +0.9% share increase to achieve a 5.6% share.

In October, Hamish Macdonald will be heard 5 days a week on the Mornings program taking on Fridays in addition to his current Monday to Thursday schedule.

"We're having heaps of fun on Mornings; breaking stories and building this big daily conversation with Sydney. It's really wonderful to see the audience responding in this way. And it's a huge testament to the hard work of our wonderful team." Hamish said.

"I can't wait to add Fridays and of course thanks to my dear mate Kath who will still be all over the 702 schedule, as one of the hardest working broadcasters in the biz."

Kathryn Robinson will still be heard on 702 currently in Afternoons and also continues in her role with ABC News.

In GfK survey 5 the ABC's overall network share has increased to 18.3% (+1.2%) this survey and our overall reach grew 3.6% to 4.751million listeners each week^. The ABC remains the undisputed #1 digital live streaming network with our share up +2.7% this survey to 28.6% and reach increasing by 7% to 1.45 million listeners*.
