Townsville has the best seat in the house to enjoy world-class arts and entertainment this April with Council's galleries and theatres supporting eight local and national exhibitions and productions.
Pinnacles Gallery is set to re-open on Saturday 29 April as part of the new Riverway Arts Centre, adjacent to the new Riverway Library. The first feature exhibition will be Leftover Love – New Directions featuring art made from recycled materials. Meanwhile Perc Tucker Regional Gallery is continuing to exhibit Art in Conflict: An Australian War Memorial Touring Exhibition.
Townsville Civic Theatre is starting the month with the final two shows of North Queensland Opera and Music Theatre (NQOMT)'s production of Chess on 1 April.
Organised Pandemonium's Velvet Rewired will bring Marcia Hines, DJ Joe Accaria, Marc 'FullOut' Royale to Townsville Civic Theatre alongside acrobats, aerialists and vocalists for seven shows from Wednesday 12 April to Sunday 16 April.
Celtic Illusion will take the stage with The Magic Returns on Tuesday 18 April, bringing a fusion of Irish dance, magic and the influential flavours of Fosse, Michael Jackson and Broadway to Townsville.
Morning Melodies returns from 11am to 12:30pm on Wednesday 19 April with tenor Paul Ettore Tabone's Best of West End.
Outrageous Australian band Chocolate Starfish is bringing Meatloaf's record Bat Out of Hell to Townsville Civic Theatre on Friday 21 April.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is bringing a stellar line up of Roadshow favourites and breakthrough stars to Townsville Civic Theatre on Wednesday 26 April.
Capping off the month is the Festival of One Act Plays (FOOAP), showcasing a diverse range of North Queensland talent with special guest adjudicator Alex Broun on Saturday 29 April.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Townsville locals had their pick of acclaimed art to choose from this month.
"Townsville has been ranked in the top 10 best cities in Australia to live in this week, which is testament to Council's commitment to growing Townsville's capacity as the events capital of Northern Australia," Cr Greaney said.
"Taking a look at what's on offer at Council's facilities shows that we're attracting world-class talent and making it accessible to both Townsville locals and intrastate visitors – and that's just what we're offering at Council-owned facilities.
"There's no excuse for being bored in April, just jump onto What's On Townsville and see the full selection of events and activities on for the month."
