ACMA Seeks Views on SMS Sender ID Register Costs

The ACMA is seeking views on proposed cost recovery arrangements for the SMS Sender ID Register. The Register helps protect Australians from SMS and MMS scams that impersonate trusted businesses and organisations.

A consultation paper released today is proposing that, from the 2027-28 financial year, the ACMA's ongoing operational costs of running the Register are recovered by charging an annual application fee for registering a sender ID.

We are seeking feedback on the proposed charging model and administration arrangements, including whether applicants or telcos should pay application fees to the ACMA on behalf of applicants, the registration period, and whether lower fees or exemptions should apply to some entities.

Submissions can be made through the ACMA website and close Friday 4 December 2026.
