More fast chargers are arriving in Canberra, with 12 new fast charging bays now available in Belconnen - including accessible charging bays designed in consultation with local advocacy groups.
Two sites delivered by Evie Networks are located at Emu Bank and Charnwood Shops, and SolarHub has opened a site at Lakeview Square, Belconnen.
The uptake of electric vehicles has skyrocketed in the ACT, with the latest figures showing more than 40% of all new registrations last month being EVs. The ACT has also surpassed 20,000 EV registrations, up from 13,300 only a year ago.
Over the next few years, a further 90 public EV charging bays will be delivered across the Territory. This adds to the 330 existing charging bays, almost half of which were supported by ACT Government funding.
Increasing public charging infrastructure is just one of many ways the ACT Government leading the charge and investing in the ACT's electrification journey:
- We are also supporting Canberrans to purchase EVs and/or to install private chargers through the Sustainable Household Scheme.
- Owner Corporations are now able to access support through the new Sustainable Apartments Program to plan and progress their transition to electrification.
- ACT businesses can get free advice and support to transition their passenger fleet through the Sustainable Business Program.
These measures, alongside the ACT's Climate Change Strategy and a suite of additional climate-positive programs, are supporting Canberrans as we work towards a cleaner, electrified and decarbonised economy.
