The Aussie Stingers are shaping up to be our strongest women's water polo team yet ahead of the LA Olympics thanks to a world first research project led by ACU's Professor Louise Burke and Dr Alannah McKay.
The stingers hit the water for a two-week intensive camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra working poolside with ACU researchers to give our women's water polo squad a green and gold edge at the LA Olympics.
Professor Burke and Dr McKay are looking to unlock each athlete's optimal energy which could make or break performance in the pool.
"It's going to give us a really good picture about how well they're matching their nutrition with their training," Dr McKay told WIN News.
"We're going to be able to give them individualized feedback one-on-one to say you're doing a really good job or this is how we can improve, and we can maybe look at targeting either carbohydrate or protein a little bit more."
The study is using smart rings to monitor the women outside of the water, keeping in close communication with each athlete to find out how they are feeling.
