Additional charges after police operation at Picton

Detectives in Sydney's south west have laid additional charges against a man as part of an ongoing investigation.

An investigation was commenced by Camden Police Area Command after information from the Australian Federal Police into the alleged importation of prohibited firearms and explosives.

On Tuesday 20 July 2021 officers attended an address on Argyle Street, Picton and with assistance from specialist resources including the Drug and Firearms Squad's Chemical Operations Team, Rescue and Bomb Disposal Squad and NSW Fire and Rescue Hazmat, seized a number of items.

A 54-year-old man was arrested and charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, and possess, supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose.

Following further inquiries, detectives laid additional charges against the man in Picton Local Court on Tuesday (10 August 2021).

He was charged with manufacture prohibited firearm without licence/permit, acquire prohibited firearm part no authority to do so, and four counts of possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

The man was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court today (Thursday 12 August 2021).

Investigations continue.
