Additional hearings on encryption bill to assess urgency

Today, the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security will hold additional hearings with intelligence and law enforcement agencies on the proposed encryption bill.

Following recent media on the urgency of the proposed powers, the Committee will hear evidence from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, federal and state police, the Australian Signals Directorate and the Department of Home Affairs on the necessity of any urgent procession of the Bill.

The Committee has not made changes to the hearings scheduled for 27 and 30 November.
