The Adelaide Railway Station is now a Declared Public Transport Hub to provide police with additional powers to maintain public safety and conduct weapons detection searches.
Commencing from Thursday 18 December, the declaration will allow police to conduct metal detector searches of any person or their property or order a person posing a risk to public safety to leave the area.
Police will also be able to order a person or group posing a risk to public safety and order to leave the Adelaide Railway Station for 24 hours.
The purpose of Declared Public Precincts is to prevent serious incidents, especially knife crime, by proactively searching for dangerous weapons in crowded places.
