More than 640 students and teachers will take part in Ag Discovery Day at the Toowoomba Royal Showgrounds on Thursday 26 March, giving young people a hands-on opportunity to explore the exciting world of agriculture.
Presented by AgForce School to Industry Partnership Program in partnership with the Toowoomba Royal Show, Ag Discovery will welcome participants from seven primary schools for an immersive day of learning about food, fibre, farming and the many career opportunities within the agriculture sector.
The event is designed to help young Queenslanders better understand where their food and fibre come from, while highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in Queensland and across Australia. Students will also benefit from learning in an agricultural show environment, with exhibitions showcasing some of Queensland's finest producers.
Students will rotate through a wide range of interactive exhibits and demonstrations delivered by industry experts, showcasing the diversity of modern agriculture and the many ways people contribute to producing the food and fibre Australians rely on every day.
AgForce Manager for Community Engagement, Kellie Blinco, said events like Ag Discovery Day play an important role in helping young people build a connection with agriculture.
"Many children today are several generations removed from the farm, so opportunities like Ag Discovery Day are incredibly valuable in helping students understand where their food and fibre come from," Ms Blinco said.
"Agriculture is a cornerstone of Queensland's economy and communities, and it offers an incredibly diverse range of careers, from farming and animal care through to science, technology, research, logistics and food production."
"By giving students the chance to interact with producers and industry representatives, we hope to spark curiosity and show them that agriculture is an innovative, exciting industry with many pathways available."
Through hands-on learning and real-world experiences, Ag Discovery aims to inspire the next generation to see agriculture as an essential and dynamic industry that will continue to play a critical role in Australia's future. The Toowoomba Royal Show has demonstrated a strong and ongoing commitment to education initiatives over many years, with programs like Ag Discovery Day continuing to grow in reach and impact each year.
