Airwing officers locate offender

Mirrabooka Detectives have charged a man with a host of burglary, fraud and stolen motor vehicle offences following an incident in St James yesterday, Thursday 17 August 2023.

Between 1.30am and 8am, an unknown person entered a home on Hamer Avenue in Wembley Downs, before allegedly stealing a white Toyota Prius and bag containing a mobile phone and other personal items.

About 10.20am, inquiries led Mirrabooka Detectives to believe the vehicle was parked at an address in St James. Police Air Wing was deployed and located the alleged stolen vehicle parked in the car port of the address.

While under observation by air assets, an unknown male was observed attempting to obscure the vehicle licence plate from view. This male, in company with another male person, then departed the address in a different vehicle.

Following communications between Police Air Wing and officers on the ground from Cannington District, the vehicle was followed to a shopping centre on Hill View Terrace in Bentley, where a 44-year-old man was arrested.

The 44-year-old St. James man is due to has been charged with:

1 x A Person who Wilfully and Unlawfully Destroys or Damages any Monitoring Equipment

3 x Stealing

4 x Gains Benefit by Fraud

1 x Aggravated home burglary and commit

1 x Steal Motor Vehicle

1 x Obstructing Public Officers

1 x Give False Personal Details to Police

1 x Possess a Prohibited Drug (Methylamphetamine)

1 x Fail to Comply with Request to Give Police Personal Details

1 x Home burglary and commit

1 x Aggravated Burglary and commit on a place

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 18 August 2023.
