Alcohol And Cannabis Seized - Galiwinku

Northern Territory Police have charged a 48-year-old man after allegedly locating alcohol and cannabis during a search at Galiwinku Airport.

At around 1:30pm yesterday, police conducted alcohol searches at the airport and searched a local man who had arrived on a flight from Darwin.

Police allegedly located 168 grams of cannabis and 11 one-litre bottles of whiskey in his possession.

The man was arrested and conveyed to Galiwinku Police Station, where he was charged with:

  • Possessing a traffickable quantity of cannabis
  • Bringing prohibited liquor into a general restricted area.

He was bailed to appear in Galiwinku Local Court at a later date.

Remote Sergeant Nathan Bobette said Galiwinku Police will continue conducting searches under relevant legislation to disrupt the importation and supply of alcohol and illicit substances within the community.

"Police remind residents and visitors that bringing alcohol into Galiwinku, a general restricted area, is an offence under the Liquor Act 2019. The possession of cannabis is also an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1990."
