City of Whittlesea residents and business owners are invited to share their ideas and help shape the future upgrades of the Alexander Avenue shopping precinct in Thomastown.
As part of the Council's Town Centre Revitalisation program, the area is set to receive a range of improvements including improved access to local businesses and increased safety in the area to create an inviting space for people to connect. Council is also interested in your insights for the general area, including Nick Ascenzo Reserve and adjacent local roads.
Local business owners welcome the upgrades and hope the revitalisation will bring more people to the shopping strip and ensure the Alexander Avenue shopping precinct will continue to thrive into the future.
Susan from Susanah's Hair Design says that it's important the area feels comfortable and safe for her clients and business.
"Comfort and safety are core features that attract people to a public space. Adding landscaping and natural beauty and improving access to shops will also help create an inviting space for people to spend extra time here," said Susan.
Amy from Foodworks Grocery Store is keen to see improved lighting along the shopping strip to help visitors feel safe, particularly for businesses such as hers that are open late into the evenings.
"It can get very dark here at night, so additional lighting would be a significant improvement to make the area feel safe." Said Amy.
Shopping precincts are the heart of local communities and we want to do all we can to make the Alexander Avenue shopping precinct a space where locals interact and connect with businesses.
