All Points To Teaching: First-year Reflections

Australian Catholic University

The All Points to Teaching (APTT) program was launched with a clear purpose: to create pathways into teaching for talented individuals while addressing workforce shortages in priority schools.

Our aim is simple yet powerful – support students to balance study with meaningful school-based roles, while equipping them with the skills and confidence to thrive as future educators.

We welcomed 65 dedicated students in 2025, each bringing diverse life experience and a passion to make a difference. Their focus was to manage their first year of study while contributing to schools where they are needed most. Many have progressed into learning support positions, and others stepping into conditionally accredited teaching roles, an achievement that speaks to their determination and the pathways APTT provides. These roles span metropolitan and regional schools, strengthening communities and addressing critical workforce gaps.

Thank you to the many academic and professional staff who have guided, inspired, and supported our students throughout their first year. A special mention to the dedicated APTT team for ensuring students felt connected and cared for. Feedback from students and schools has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the program as "transformative" and "valued". This progress would not be possible without the unwavering dedication of the APTT team, the LLE team, and the leadership from our Faculty Executive group.

Next year brings exciting developments as we welcome 115 new students into the program. The launch of our first suite of APTT Short Courses, developed by academics from the National School of Education, IPPE and the Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy add another vital layer to the program, reinforcing that teaching is about lifelong learning.

As we look ahead, our vision remains clear: to expand opportunities, deepen partnerships and continue making a meaningful difference. APTT is more than a program, it is a shared commitment to the future of education.
