Alleged sexual assault of woman; man charged in Wollongong

A man will face court today following the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Wollongong at the weekend, NSW Police say.

About 2.40am on Sunday 14 October 2018, a 56-year-old woman entered a taxi at the front of a licensed premises on Pioneer Road, Towradgi.

Police will allege a man, unknown to the woman, also entered the taxi and proceeded to Bellambi Street, Tarrawanna.

As the woman got out of the taxi, it’s alleged the man followed her into a home and sexually assaulted her.

The man left and police were contacted.

Following inquiries by officers from Wollongong Police District, about 10pm yesterday (Tuesday 16 October 2018), a 39-year-old man was arrested at a home on The Grant Court, Fairy Meadow.

The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with aggravated sexual assault and inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with victim.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 17 October 2018).
