Alliance sought for METRONET Bayswater Station upgrade

  • Request for Proposal released for Bayswater Station upgrade work
  • Work set to start in late 2019, creating hundreds of jobs
  • Tender process follows extensive community consultation in Bayswater area
  • Successful alliance to also work on connection to proposed Morley-Ellenbrook Line
  • The State Government is now seeking contractors to build the METRONET upgrade of Bayswater Station, which will form the vital rail junction of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line, Forrestfield-Airport Link and the existing Midland Line.

Contractors are being sought to design and construct the Bayswater Station upgrade and associated works through a competitive alliance contract. A Request for Proposal (RFP) for the project was released to market today (April 11).

The successful bidder will be required to demonstrate its ability to design and construct the station and the bridge over the King William Street/Coode Street underpass while the Midland Line remains operational.

The alliance will also complete track, signalling, civil, drainage, and overhead line works along with building retaining walls, delivering communications and control systems, and public spaces.

The RFP submissions will also need to show how the parties will work around other major transport projects taking place around the Bayswater area, and deliver a value-for-money solution which minimises community impacts.

A successful alliance will also assist with work on the proposed Morley-Ellenbrook Line, by providing the connection between the Midland Line and the future rail project.

RFP applications close in May, with contract award and construction set to start by the end of the year.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We're getting on with the Bayswater Station upgrade, a key part of this Government's METRONET plan for connected suburbs.

"Bayswater is a strategic location on our rail network, with the Forrestfield-Airport Link set to spur off the Midland Line in this location, along with the future Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

"Bayswater is a thriving inner-suburbs community that will be bolstered further by the addition of this new activity centre around the train station.

"This significant upgrade to the station, along with raising the notorious bridge over the King William Street/Coode Street underpass, will further improve the amenity of the area.

"The upgraded station will increase the attractiveness of public transport and help facilitate sensible new development in an already desirable suburb.

"This RFP will give an alliance the opportunity to participate in a project that will shape Bayswater's future."

As stated by Maylands MLA Lisa Baker:

"The Bayswater station will be transformed under METRONET and is set to have huge flow-on benefits for Bayswater.

"I am pleased the next stage of this important project is progressing, with construction set to start by the end of the year.

"I hope the successful contractor will work closely with stakeholder groups and work hard to minimise the short-term impact on the community."
