Almost 2000 new koala trees to be planted across shire

Kempsey Shire Council

The Koala Feed Tree giveaway project will see almost 2000 new trees planted in the shire to help regenerate koala habitat lost in the recent bushfires.

Landholders and farmers collected their new trees from Kempsey Landcare earlier this week.

Four species of koala feed trees, made available thanks to funding from NSW Government, were distributed:

  • Eucalyptus microcorys (Tallowwood)
  • Eucalyptus propinqua (Grey Gum)
  • Eucalyptus robusta (Swampy Mahogany)
  • Eucalyptus tereticornis (Forest Red Gum)

Highly suitable for koalas, the trees can grow to a height of up to 40 metres. A big thank you to everyone who has pledged to plant these trees on their land.
