The AMA supports legislation before Parliament that will effectively ban the use of adverse genetic test results by life insurers.
We have strongly advocated that the Bill be passed by Parliament as a matter of urgency. The Senate Economics Legislation Committee is due to report on the Inquiry by 26 February 2026.
Genetic testing should be incorporated in everyday healthcare, however, extensive research has shown that people are discouraged from participating in genetic testing and genomic research for fear of being frozen out of insurance cover if a genetic risk is uncovered.
