Anglican Leader Urges Gaza Ceasefire

Anglican Church of Australia

The abject failure of Israel and Hamas to agree terms for a ceasefire is contributing to an intolerable crisis in Gaza. The violence must stop urgently and people must have the food and water they so desperately need to survive.

I call for the release of remaining hostages being held by Hamas, an end to military action in Gaza by Israel, and free access for aid to the people of Gaza.

The political ambitions of Hamas and Israel are continuing to cause desolation and intolerable suffering to innocent children, women and men who are just trying to live their lives in Gaza.

The fact that more than 100 aid agencies have warned of mass starvation is a clear signal that this conflict has moved into a truly awful phase.

I ask members of the Anglican Church of Australia to pray and continue to pray for peace and a just outcome for the people of Gaza.
