Animation Spotlights First Nations in Climate Leadership

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

We're excited to share the second animation in our First Nations series. This story celebrates how First Nations knowledges are guiding global climate action.

Across the world, Indigenous Peoples hold deep connection to land, water, and sky. Their knowledge systems, built over thousands of years, are vital to how we understand and respond to climate change.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) recognises the importance of this knowledge. That's why it created the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP). This is a global forum that brings First Nations voices to the table. It helps share Indigenous knowledge and ways to manage and adapt to climate change.

Through this platform, Indigenous Peoples around the world connect, share ideas, and work together.

This new animation explains how the LCIPP works and how it uplifts the vital role of Indigenous Peoples' leadership on climate action.

Australia is a proud to be part of the LCIPP. We encourage First Nations people to get involved and share their voices on the global stage.

Climate change affects everyone. But First Nations people have always led the way in caring for Country. Through the LCIPP, their voices and knowledges continue to shape global climate action.
