Another teen charged over Pyrmont stabbing

Detectives have now charged a ninth person after a man sustained significant facial injuries during an assault in Pyrmont last week.

Just before 11pm on Friday (31 July 2020), police were called to the intersection of Pyrmont Bridge Road and Wattle Streets, after reports of an assault.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and found a 36-year-old man suffering serious facial injuries.

Investigators have been told the man was confronted and assaulted by a group of males, who weren't known to him, before being repeatedly stabbed in the face and slashed with the knife.

The man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he remains in an induced coma receiving treatment to significant facial injuries, including the loss of his eyesight.

To date, eight teenagers have been charged and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, a 16-year-old boy was arrested at a home on Lonard Avenue, Wiley Park about 9.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 4 August 2020).

He was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and affray.

He was refused bail and will appear in a children's court today (Wednesday 5 August 2020).

Investigations into the assault are continuing.
