App updates make it easier to create bushfire plan

  • State Government launches updated My Bushfire Plan app, new improvements making it easier than ever to make a bushfire plan
  • Western Australians encouraged to complete their bushfire plans with tough conditions forecast over the next few months
  • The State Government is urging all Western Australians to create a bushfire plan - with improvements to the My Bushfire Plan app making it easier than ever.

Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby launched the updated app today in Baldivis, one of the highest-performing suburbs in Perth for completed bushfire plans.

New features include enhanced visual prompts, drop-down fields, easier access to educational tools and the ability to create multiple plans per user to cover holiday homes and different scenarios.

Improvements to the app coincide with the launch of the campaign 'How Fireproof is your plan?', which features a series of hard-hitting advertisements and calls on the community to consider what they would do in the event of a bushfire.

Ellenbrook is the leading postcode by the number of bushfire plans completed, closely followed by Baldivis, Roleystone, Kalamunda and Darlington rounding out the top five.

The five top-performing regional areas are: Margaret River, Yallingup, Dunsborough, Albany and Nannup.

Importantly, residents in the shires of Mundaring and Kalamunda, which were both impacted by the devastating Wooroloo bushfire in February, have created more than 800 plans.

As stated by Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby:

"We've experienced a tough start to the fire season, and I can't stress enough how important it is to make or update your bushfire plan and ensure your property is prepared.

"The new features on the My Bushfire Plan app and website make it easier than ever to develop a plan - and it could save your life.

"Our research shows that 5,400 people have completed a bushfire plan since the app was launched 12 months ago and 20,000 have started making a plan. It's important that the process is completed to protect your family.

"Now is also the time to make sure your property is well prepared and you have cleared gutters, removed rubbish and reduced fuel loads by trimming trees. The same applies to any holiday homes people own or rent out."
