Appeal after serious assault - Haymarket

Police have released images of a man they believe can assist as an investigation continues into the serious assault of a woman in Haymarket overnight.

Police have been told a woman entered the carpark of a building on Castlereagh Street, Haymarket, about 11.45pm (Sunday 22 January 2023), closely followed by man.

While waiting in the lift lobby, the pair became involved in an altercation before entering a lift where the woman was seriously assaulted.

Security personnel intervened and the man and woman left the building, walking off in opposite directions.

Police were notified with officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command commencing an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, investigators have released images of a man they believe will be able to assist them.

The man depicted is described as being of Caucasian appearance, believed to be aged in his late twenties, of solid build, with light brown curly hair and tattoos on both arms.

He is shown to be wearing black shorts, a black t-shirt that is torn, and a black cap.

Police are urging anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
