Appeal for info after sexual assault in Ashcroft

Police are appealing for information into a sexual assault which occurred in Sydney’s south-west, NSW Police say.

Between 2am and 3am today (Saturday 8 December 2018), a 48-year-old woman was walking along Maxwells Avenue, Ashcroft, near the entrance to Blamfield Oval, when she noticed a cream coloured, four door ute stopped on the opposite side of the road.

The man in the driver’s seat asked the woman for a cigarette lighter before they had a short conversation.

The man then drove away and the woman started walking through Blamfield Oval. As she was walking through the oval she was approached from behind by the man and sexually assaulted.

The man left the scene and the woman attended hospital a short time later.

Police from Liverpool Police Area Command commenced inquiries into the incident.

The man has been described as tall, olive skin, clean shaven, brown eyes, dark hair, and wearing a black and grey striped shirt. He spoke with a New Zealand accent.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
