The Youth Council is an exciting opportunity to be a voice for young people in the Blue Mountains. If you are aged 12 - 19 years and have a passion for our community, recreation and the environment, then apply to join today!

Blue Mountains Mayor, Councillor Mark Greenhill said the Youth Council initiative is an important and powerful way to give the next generation a voice now.

"Becoming a part of the Youth Council is a fantastic and unique opportunity for young locals to develop their leadership skills and make a real impact for their local community."

"The Youth Council develops a program of actions to increase opportunities and improve services for young people, and also to share their opinions and ideas with Councillors and staff.

"And what's more, the focus of the Youth Council is determined by its members. So every year bright young leaders from across the Blue Mountains get to decide what matters now and for their future."

The Blue Mountains Youth Council is a committee of 20 members who meet monthly. Youth Councillors are advocates and leaders; they raise issues, participate in consultations and develop projects that benefit the local environment and community. Successful applicants remain members for two years after which they can reapply if they wish.

The Youth Council is a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of local government and advocacy, while also being a standout feature on your resume.

The 2022 Youth Council chose to focus on the environment and climate change, and engaged with Project Plant It, which supports children and young people to learn about and help regenerate native vegetation and habitat.

Applicants don't need any experience.

So, if you are between 12 - 19 years old, live in the Blue Mountains and want to make a difference, join the Blue Mountains Youth Council.

Nominations are open until Sunday 16 April 2023. Find out more about Youth Council and apply online.
