Applications are open for interested people to join the Disability Services Commission Board.
The nine-member Board provides general direction on the operation of the Commission and legislation specifies that at least five members must either have a disability, have a relative with disability, or have current or recent experience as a carer or an advocate for people with disability.
A key focus of the Board's work over its coming term is to promote and drive the delivery of the State Disability Strategy.
Board members will be encouraged to use their existing personal and professional networks to inform research projects and contribute to the Board's broader aims and goals.
Applications are being sought from people with disability, family members, carers, advocates and others with knowledge and expertise of disability, as well as people who have expertise relevant to the function of the Commission such as management, law, marketing or service provision.

As stated by Disability Services Minister Don Punch:
"The Board's goal is remarkably straightforward and critically important: to enhance the lives of people with disability, their families and carers in the Western Australian community.
"Newly elected Board members will work alongside members of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Disability to build a more inclusive Western Australia and empower people with disability to participate meaningfully in all parts of society.
"The Board strives to reflect the diversity of the community and people who can demonstrate the required skills, knowledge or experience are invited to nominate for membership.
"As well as people with lived experience of disability, people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, culturally and linguistically diverse people, young people and people living in regional and remote areas of Western Australia are also encouraged to apply."
