Apprenticeship Opens Doors For Anna-Belle

Sunday, 8 Marchis International Women's Day, and we're celebrating by highlighting one of our own as she navigates her career here at Clarence Valley Council.

When Anna-Belle saw the Apprentice Fitter position advertised, she thought, 'if boys can do it, so can I'.

At 16, Anna-Belle was looking to leave school and start a career, so when council's award-winning 'Grow Your Own' program caught her attention, she threw her hat in the ring.

"I took an apprenticeship with Clarence Valley Council to prove to myself that I could do something greater with my life and prove that I am just as able to do it as others are."

"My favourite part of working for the council is the community of people I work around and all the support, respect, and willingness to help each other. It adds to the many benefits that come along with working for the Council."

With another two years to go in her apprenticeship, Anna-Belle will finish with a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, all while gaining vital experience in the field, such as undertaking repairs in the workshop and assisting in minor welding and fitting activities.

Council's Grow Your Own program focuses on supporting the well-being of our trainees and apprentices through a combination of structured health-focused sessions and monthly face-to-face sessions where the staff can share ideas and learning to support each other on their career journeys.
