Archibald Prize Tour to Visit Shoalhaven Gallery

Finalists of the Archibald Prize 2025 will be on exhibition at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery in Nowra from this weekend.

The touring exhibition provides an opportunity for the local community to see some of the best portraits judged by the Art Gallery of NSW that were submitted as part of the coveted competition.

The winners of the local Young Archies competition, which showcases budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18, will also be announced when Mayor Patricia White opens the exhibition on Saturday 16 May.

"It is an incredible honour to host the Archibald Prize here at our local gallery, bringing one of Australia's most prestigious and celebrated exhibitions directly to our community," said Mayor White.

"The calibre of portraiture on display is truly exceptional, and these works represent the very best of contemporary artistic practice in Australia. We are enormously proud to open this touring exhibition and share these remarkable works with our community," Cr White said.

"For aspiring artists, this is a rare and inspiring opportunity, and I have no doubt this exhibition will ignite creativity in the next generation of artists in our community," she said.

This year, the Gallery received over 90 entries to the Young Archies competition, which was judged by Youth Leaders from arts and community cultural development organisation, Beyond Empathy.

Tickets to view the exhibition are $5 for adults and are available for purchase at the Gallery. The exhibition will close on Saturday 18 July 2026.
