Armed robbery on Swanston Street

Melbourne Embona detectives are hoping to identify a group of men following an armed robbery in Melbourne on 9 December.

Police have been told the 23-year-old male victim was walking along Swanston Street in Melbourne when he was approached from behind by a group of males near Little Lonsdale Street about 3pm.

The victim was placed in a headlock by one of the offenders while the rest surrounded him and made demands for his headphones.

He broke free and attempted to run away but his headphones fell to the ground and as he struggled with his attackers to retrieve them an offender produced what was believed to be an extendable baton.

The offender struck the victim over the back of the head with the baton before the group ran away towards La Trobe Street.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident.

CCTV has been obtained of the offenders fleeing the scene and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the offenders to come forward.
