Arrest - Melville Primary School Fire, WA

About 7:25pm on Friday 6 January 2017, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services advised WA Police of a fire at the Melville Primary School located on Curtis Road in Melville.

Arson Squad detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire and with the assistance of information received from members of the public, have today (9 January 2017) arrested a 15 year old boy, WA Police say.

It will be alleged a group of five juveniles (four boys and one girl aged between 15 and 17 years) gained entry into the school grounds. The 15 year old boy lit a fire in a rubbish bin which quickly got out of control and spread, causing significant damage to the school.

The 15 year old boy from Brentwood has been charged with Breach of Duty and he is due to appear before the Perth Children’s Court on Wednesday 25 January 2017.
