Wagga Wagga Art Gallery is hosting a special lunchtime talk with acclaimed Wagga Wagga-based Gamilaraay artist Juanita McLauchlan on Tuesday 21 October 2025.
Juanita McLachlan is a Wynne Prize 2024 finalist, recipient of the 2024 National Regional Arts Fund Fellowship and recipient of an Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant, among many other accolades.
She currently has a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney – yilaa minyaminyabal maaru-ma-lda-y (soon everything will be healing).
The Art is a Real Job - Lunchtime Talk with Juanita McLauchlan will be facilitated by Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Director Dr Lee-Anne Hall, who says the discussion will explore Juanita's career and success as an artist.
"Wagga Wagga City Council and Wagga Wagga Art Gallery recognise that working as an artist is a valuable career," Dr Hall said.
"Juanita has been involved with the Art Gallery for several years now, she had an exhibition here in 2023 – entitled gii mara-bula / Heart Hand-also – and has delivered several public programs.
"Every Tuesday for the past 18 months, Juanita has worked from the E3 Workshop, as part of her Elsa Dixon grant, where she has been continuing to develop her creative practice with the support of the Art Gallery team.
During the talk, Juanita and Lee-Anne will reflect on the Elsa Dixon residency, Juanita's career so far, and will discuss what it means to have a sustainable, ethical and successful career as a visual artist.
Art is a Real Job - Lunchtime Talk: Juanita McLauchlan in conversation with Dr Lee-Anne Hall will be held on Tuesday 21 October 2025, 12pm – 1pm at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
A light lunch will be provided. This event is free; however, bookings are essential for catering and event planning purposes.
