The Corowa Art Space is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition, "Tapestry of Time: Four Generations of the Sanger Family," presented by the Corowa District Historical Society (CDHS).

Drawing from the rich collection of artefacts held by the Corowa Federation Museum, this exhibition meticulously chronicles the history of one of Corowa's most significant pioneer families, and the namesakes of Sanger Street. Over many months, CDHS members, led by curator Beth Tidd, have conducted extensive historical research and planning to bring this compelling local story to life.

This unique showcase offers visitors a captivating glimpse into the lives of the Sanger family through an exquisite array of textiles and accessories. The collection spans eighty years, tracing the evolution of fashion from the elegant Gilded Nineties to the bold aesthetics of the Swinging Seventies. The exhibition's central focus is the matrilineal line of the Sanger women, whose clothes and household objects allow us to vividly imagine their day-to-day life and social standing within the community.

The Sanger women were known to be exceptionally fashionable, likely serving as style icons within Corowa at the time. They expertly balanced life as homesteader women with a metropolitan flair, often travelling to Melbourne to acquire the latest city fashions. The family was known for hosting lavish events and even fashion parades. The exhibition will include a wide variety of items spanning from the 1890s to the 1970s, predominantly featuring women's outfits such as a wedding dress and a maternity dress, along with sophisticated accessories and period undergarments. Some men's suits and children's outfits will also be on display.

"Tapestry of Time: Four Generations of the Sanger Family" will be on display at the Corowa Art Space from January 15 2026, to February 28 2026. Entry to the exhibition is by gold coin donation. The exhibition will be open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 9:30am to 4:30pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
