Artificial Intelligence ignites business competitiveness in Victoria

The ignite innovation series is an exciting collaboration between the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Victorian universities, CSIRO, the Victorian Government and businesses to highlight, encourage and foster Victoria’s revolutionary industry-linked innovation and research capabilities.

"Evidence shows that when businesses collaborate with researchers, they more than triple their likelihood of annual productivity growth," said Mark Stone AM, the Victorian Chamber’s Chief Executive. "We want to make sure Victorian businesses know how to collaborate with the universities and don’t miss out on opportunities. We are showcasing what Victoria is famous for."

Deakin University Vice Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander AO said the University was committed to world-class research that made a difference to the communities it served, which is why it had established the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A2I2) in recognition of how important AI was in providing solutions to the world’s future problems.

"We are determined to create new ideas that lead to innovative real-world outcomes and offer solutions to the complex challenges of our rapidly changing economy, which means close collaborations with our industry and government partners," Professor den Hollander said.

"As a society, we are already dealing with the challenges of the exponential growth of data and the evolution of machine learning and AI, and we’re already seeing its impact on privacy and workforce change. There’s no doubt AI is a disrupter but we know AI technologies also have enormous potential to significantly increase productivity and drive economic growth."

Among the presenters for Wednesday’s event are Deakin’s world-renowned AI experts Professor Svetha Venkatesh and Professor Kon Mouzakis, joined by Dr Murray Height, CEO of HeiQ Australia, a company who is successfully collaborating with Deakin to replicate silk properties. Our ignite+Deakin speakers are expected to "wow" the audience with their knowledge and engaging ‘talk show’ style.

This is an initiative not to be missed. Come and discover how AI can ignite growth and job opportunities for Victorian business. You will be able to witness how forward-thinking collaboration and commercialisation of research can be ignited when great minds collide.
