- Queensland cements its reputation as events capital of the nation and the home of Australian sport with second Ashes Test.
- Match expected to boost state's economy by more than $35 million, with sell-out Gabba crowds across first three days of the Test.
- The Crisafulli Government's Destination 2045 plan is securing Queensland as the premier destination for major sporting events.
The Crisafulli Government has proudly welcomed the second Ashes Test of 2025 to Brisbane, and is ready for visitors to bowl over local businesses with an expected $35 million injection into the Queensland economy.
Brisbane's hotels, cafes, restaurants and tourism businesses will be on the front-foot as fans from across Australia and the UK have arrived in force, with sell-out crowds expected during the first three days of the Test.
Around 6,200 international fans are expected to travel to Brisbane to witness the event – led by a patriotic Barmy Army of around 5,800 UK enthusiasts – and a further 15,500 interstate travellers are expected to descend on south-east Queensland.
The Crisafulli Government's Destination 2045 tourism plan is supercharging the industry after the former Labor Government's decade of decline, and helping solidify Queensland's reputation as the leading destination for major sporting events.
The entertainment isn't limited to the pitch, with Cricket Australia launching the Brisbane Summer Fan Zone, where fans can enjoy a taste of Queensland summer.
The fan zone delivers a Queensland-inspired beach viewing area in front of the big screen, live entertainment, food trucks and interactive games, providing a vibrant atmosphere for fans.
Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said Queensland's reputation as the home of the holiday was made clear when fans raced to the east coast following a dramatic early end to the Perth Test.
"The Ashes at the Gabba isn't just cricket - it's Queensland pride on-show and proof we're a global sporting destination," Minister Powell said.
"This is exactly what Destination 2045 is about: capitalising on the green and gold runway to grow our economy and showcase the lifestyle that makes Queensland unbeatable."
"When fans fill our hotels, dine in our restaurants and explore our great state, it's a win for local businesses and a win for Queensland."
Minister for Sport Tim Mander said he was excited to see Australia represent the nation with pride in front of a spirited Gabba crowd.
"Summer in Australia is cricket season, and it doesn't get any bigger than the Ashes," Minister Mander said.
"The excitement around the Gabba Test will no doubt encourage more Queenslanders to get out and have a crack playing."
"In addition to stimulating the state's economy, the Test Match delivers lasting community outcomes, fostering local pride, encouraging an active lifestyle and inspiring the next generation of elite sporting talent.
"We are locking in our status as the home of Australian sport as we pave the green and gold runway towards the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
The Queensland Government is proud to support this global event, through Tourism and Events Queensland, in partnership with the Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Economic Development Agency.
