Asia Gets Taste Of Tasmanian Flavours

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Trade

Some of Tasmania's most delicious food and drinks will be tasted on the international stage at Asia's largest food and beverage trade show.

Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff, said nine Tasmanian businesses were showcasing their products to an estimated crowd of 60,000 at the Food and Hotel Asia exhibit in Singapore this week.

"Singapore is considered the gateway to Asia, and attending trade shows such as this provides us with access to growing markets across this region," Premier Rockliff said.

"This gives our Tasmanian exporters an opportunity to showcase their high-quality products, forge valuable business connections, and expand their reach in the dynamic Asian market."

The event is expected to host over 1500 exhibitors, with attendees expected from more than 100 countries around the world.

Premium Tasmanian food and beverages participating include cheese, sea salt, ice-cream, honey, freeze-dried foods, mead, beer, whisky, vodka, rum, and gin.

Premier Rockliff said Singapore was a key trade partner for Tasmania, with more than $41 million of goods exported to the country in the 12 months up to July 2023.

"Attending events such as Food and Hotel Asia gives us an opportunity to show what Tasmania does best, on a global stage to thousands of potential customers," he said.

"Through attending the Food and Hotel Asia last year, Tasmanian businesses secured contracts in excess of $2 million across Asian markets.

"Our Liberal Government is supporting local businesses to take part in this event as part of our commitment to grow export earnings to $15 billion by 2050 through the Tasmanian Trade Strategy."
