Welcome to the September edition of the ASQA Update.
As the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be felt, many providers also continue to navigate changing public health restrictions and adjust to flexible modes of delivery and learning. ASQA remains committed to working with providers and applying an appropriate, proportionate and risk-based approach to regulating the sector.
The economic and social contribution the VET sector makes to Australia's economy is significant and remains the primary way Australians upskill, meaning the sector's responsiveness and agility in providing quality VET in the current environment is critical in supporting Australia's economic recovery and future growth and prosperity.
In support of the sector's efforts in this regard, this week, we released the first in a series of Insights papers as part of our Strategic Review of Online Learning in the VET sector. The paper includes findings from webinars held over the last six months, which outline the current landscape of online learning and provide key insights into issues providers are grappling with when it comes to compliance and quality. You will see more of these papers over the coming months - including the results of the provider survey conducted earlier this year.
Last week also saw the release of ASQA's 2021-22 Corporate Plan, which outlines our strategic priorities for the next four years. This foundational document sets out how we will work in partnership with providers and stakeholders to achieve our purpose, including the ongoing implementation of reforms to our regulatory culture and practice to focus on excellence in training outcomes. The plan sets out how our focus on best practice regulation will enable the sector to deliver the skilled workforce essential to Australia's future growth and prosperity. It also includes a new performance framework that will enable us to work with stakeholders to understand where we have been effective, where we may need to adjust our approach and, through both, promote our own continuous improvement.
We have set out an ambitious agenda of work to deliver for the sector, students, industry and the Australian community and we look forward to working with you over the coming years to achieve this.
