ATO hiring high school graduates in regional centres

The ATO is on the look-out for its next new wave of talent, as it invites Australian high school graduates to apply for the ATO School Leaver recruitment program.

With positions available for 2020 and 2021 high school graduates in Newcastle, Gosford, Upper Mt Gravatt, Townsville, Geelong and Traralgon, the program offers school leavers an alternative pathway to kick off their careers and gain some valuable experience in the field.

"For those who don't want to go straight from school to uni, this is a great way to learn new skills and notch up some career experience - all while earning a good income," said ATO Assistant Commissioner Alison Stott.

Program participants will have the chance to not only build their professional capabilities in a supportive work environment, but also undertake practical training, as the 12-month role includes formal professional development and the completion of a Certificate IV course.

And the program's not just for finance or accounting hopefuls either, Ms Stott points out: "With more than 18,000 staff at the ATO - and more than 2,000 working out of these six offices alone - a career with the ATO can range from IT to marketing to design, and everything in between!"

Sitting alongside other ATO entry-level employment programs (such as the Opening Doors and Evergreen Indigenous programs), ATO School Leaver offers that first foot in the door for those looking to enter the workforce.

"At the ATO we value diversity and our entry-level programs bring in some really talented people. I'm excited to meet the new recruits who'll join us through this program," said Ms Stott.

Applications for the 2022 ATO School Leaver program open 6 September and close on 1 October.

Successful candidates will be offered a competitive starting salary and have access to the ATO's generous working conditions. Positions will be offered on a full-time basis for 12 months, with successful completion of the program resulting in advancement to an ongoing role. Program participants will join the ATO in February 2022 in an administration or client experience officer role.
