Attempted armed robbery charges, Margate and Bracken Ridge

Police have charged two males aged, 18 and 16, following investigations into offences linked with two alleged attempted armed robberies today.

Police will allege the pair were seen travelling in a silver Subaru station wagon stolen from an address at Browns Road, Kurwongbah on September 1 at the scene of two attempted robberies.

The first incident shortly after midnight this morning, two males allegedly arrived at a convenience store on Oxley Road, Margate in the Subaru. They are alleged to have approached the counter, threatened the staff member with a handgun and demanded entry to the secured counter area. The staff member moved to defend himself and the pair fled in to the vehicle and drove away.

At about 12.30am at a service station on Bracken Ridge Road, Bracken Ridge, police will allege, the Subaru arrived, two males exited the car and one was holding a firearm. They allegedly attempted to force their way through the glass doors unsuccessfully before fleeing the scene in the Subaru.

Police responding to these incidents saw the Subaru drive into Corner Street, Grange and attempted to intercept it.

As the police exited the police car, the Subaru allegedly rammed the police car and drove at one officer who had to take evasive action before the Subaru drove away.

The vehicle was located a short time later at the gravel pits at Bald Hills.

Following investigations, police located an 18-year-old man at a Mackella Drive, Boronia Heights address and he was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 6.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and one count each of stealing a vehicle, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and evade police. He was remanded in custody to face Pine Rivers Children's Court in November.
